Since May 1st, 2009, the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) funds the Lingenio research project
ReflectDict (Rapid generation of flexible electronic Dictionaries)
The project has a duration of two years and pursues the following purposes:
- to develop methods for rapid and precise extraction of monolingual data and translation relations from corpora and conventional dictionaries and to create dictionary databases from them and to extend such databases respectively
- to develop methods for deriving machine-readable dictionaries from such databases which are able to flexibly prepare the existing information in order to present an individual response for each search context considerd which is optimally informative.
A further aim which accompanies the working out of these methods is to optimally inform about the reliability of the translations suggested.
A prerequisite for this is that the database records contain exact and operational conditions of use such that a grammatical analysis component can show whether they are matched in the context of the search word or not and by this can highlight the contextually most suitable translation. To this end Lingenio uses its analysis and translation systems as tools and its dictionary technologies
IntelliDict and FlexiDict in order to appropriately prepare the dictionary results. Both, IntelliDict and FlexiDict have been awarded a DoIT software research prize of the Land Baden-Wurttemberg.
